Volunteering with us

We welcome volunteers and benefit greatly from their skills, experience and time. Our volunteers add significant value to the services we provide, assisting with:

  • Community events
  • Indexing of archives, including wills, electoral registers, etc.
  • Washing and marking finds from archaeological excavations
  • Scanning photographs and documents for the Historic Environment Record
  • Research projects
  • Fieldwork projects
  • Paper conservation

There’s plenty in it for you, too. As well as contributing to the understanding and preservation of Worcestershire’s history, our volunteers gain knowledge, experience and skills in a new environment and can enjoy socialising with our team of enthusiastic staff and other volunteers.

Working with us

We’re a supportive employer, working in a lovely part of the United Kingdom. Staff turnover is low, but when we do recruit we look for skilled, enthusiastic team workers. In return, we offer support, training and development opportunities to help you progress through the organisation or beyond.

Training and support

Training is especially important to us across all areas of the service. We have worked with the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists to pioneer training based on National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs), a recognised, independently verified scheme. This is the third year we have run this scheme; all four of our alumni are employed by us and we are currently training another three.
