We’re almost there

    • 27th June 2012

Things have been very quiet on our blog of late, however, it has been for very good reason. We are now in the final throes of preparation and staff are busy flitting between tasks to make sure all the essential work is completed in time to receive our first customers. The Hive opens to public in less than a week (on Monday 2nd July) and we are very excited to finally see our new service taking shape. Here is a selection of things that have been happening of late:

We have been carrying on answering a limited enquiry service. Here’s Tom checking something for the Diocesan Registrar:

We’re still busy sorting out any issues in the strongrooms and checking all the items are stored appropriately and are easy to find. Here Faye encountered a problem and called Adrian (our Collections Manager) in to help sort it out.

Bethany and Val have been working hard checking the collections in our strongroom which stores frequently accessed items. This work is now complete and everything is in good order:

Val and Elizabeth have been doing a sterling job working on the Archaeology reference library. They are re-covering each book to make sure they are in good condition ready for the public to use:

Angie has created a list of all our private collection microfilms, which will now be available in our self-service area to assist anyone wishing to use these:

Val has been working on the microfilm readers. Each reader is now numbered and has its own spools and marker boxes so customers can easily help themselves to our microfilms:

Val has also labelled up the microfilm cabinets so users can easily find the films they need:

Paul has been evaluating our education packs and considering how they will be used and presented in the future:

Julia has been working to sort our new shop display. We have a selection of books on display, along with some reproduction pottery pieces from the Archaeology Service. The books will be available to purchase from our desk:

Charlene has been working to construct a new joint wesbite to represent the Archive and Archaeology Service. This work is continuing and we hope to have the new site up in the next couple of months:

Signage has now been put in place in The Hive, so users will be able to find where the services they want. This is what our new desk looks like now:

It’s not long at all now until we open. Are you excited to come and see what our new service has to offer?
